               The Roasted Pepper - 2815 Delaware Ave. (corner of Euclid)
                You can Dine In or Take Out - They have great sandwiches,
                soup salads, complete family style meals. They open at 11AM

11/25/2002 Bacchus the new wine bar and restaurant has opened at the site of the     old Calumet at 54 W. Chippewa. The write-up in Artvoice by Arthur Page made it sound fantastic! Here is the link to the Artvoice article [Bacchus]

10/17/2002 A new Internet Café opened in Kenmore at 2874 Delaware Ave. It has  coffee and pastries and of course computers. It is operated by Buffalo

   Going to the Niagara County Produce on Transit & Millersport is always a treat! Their fruits and vegetables  always look great and from the line at the meat Deli - you would think they were giving the stuff away. We'll be going back in a few weeks to pick up pumpkins and corn stalks - and probably a dozen other things.

9/6/2002 This is the time of year that many of us like to go to the Farmers' market to get fresh fruits and vegetables that are abundant now. I've been building a directory of local Farmers' markets to make them easier to find. It's  under the heading of Specialty Foods - Farmers' markets.
  If you know of any others - please let me know and I will add them. Also, if there are any road side stands that you like to stop at. I know there are a few along Ward Rd in North Tonawanda / Wheatfield area.

    Yesterday I had a chance to visit some of the great food places along 
              Hertel Ave.and  talked with several of the owners. To the Meat Market
             directory I've added Terranova Prime Meats and to the restaurant section for 
              North Buffalo I've added Geco's, Ivy's,  MT Pockets, and Wiseguys Pizza.

6/28/2002 Strawberry's are now in season and Chef Joe George wrote a great article 
               about this summer favorite in ARTVOICE. BERRY-ing THE PAST.

6/14/2002 Happy Flag Day! During the nicer weather, many people prefer to buy
                their produce from Farmer's Markets and road side stands. 
    Frank's Produce Market on the corner of Military and Thurston in
               Kenmore is an outdoor sheltered market that was doing quite a
               brisk business last Monday when I stopped by. Frank's is open M-F 8-5:30
               Sat. 8-5. Sun. 8-4. and Holidays 8-2. He also has Homemade Spaghetti
               Sauce and Pasta Faglioli. He will be open till  October.

6/11/2002 Anthony Michael's Cosmopolitan Grill's menu is now available on-line.
               There's something there for everyone and their Seafood Waterfall is just 
               spectacular! I could write more, but better yet, see for yourself! [MENU]

6/10/2002 Blendings is now linked to Marotto's Restaurantat 3365 Delaware Ave. 
             near Sheridan [MAP]. Mark Marotto has a great web site that also features 
             songs he performs on the harmonica ! Marotto's Clam Bar is also open and
             he is serving the freshest shellfish! 

6/9/2002 Buffalo Mayor Masiello's administration is working with city restaurants to
             help spread the word. " Buffalo is a city of great restaurants and people from
             all over the city and suburbs love them!"
             Buffalo has a rich abundance of authentic, ethnically and culturally diverse 
               restaurants.
             Buffalo restaurants have a broad range of fine dining and casual atmospheres 
                at affordable prices
             Buffalo restaurants allow city residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy 
                 Buffalo's unique urban character, including it's architectural, arts & cultural, 
                 as well as downtown and neighborhood environments.
    Operation Word of Mouth has been started by Paula Rosner, the Economic 
         Development Planner in the Office of Strategic Planning to help spread the word!

6/3/2002 The Farmer's Market in Kenmore is back for the season!
               It operates every Saturday from 8 AM to noon in the Municipal parking lot
               off Delaware Ave. between Mang and Lincoln

5/31/2002 The  American Culinary Federation of Greater Buffalo recently named
                Chef Richard Arnold CIA "2002 Executive Chef of the Year" I've made a link
                to the ACF national site on the "Links" page.

5/24/2002 A new link has been added to the Restaurants page. It links to the
              Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce site - Restaurants and Bars.
              Also, the Taste of Ellicottville will be held Aug. 10 - 11. 

5/16/2002 Steven Calvaneso who operates Calvaneso's Cosmopolitan Grille
              and City Grill and will be taking over the former site
              of Empire Brewing Co/Breckenridge Brewing @ 623 Main St.He is also
               planning a gourmet restaurant @ Calumet.

    Anthony Michael's Cosmopolitan Grille will open to the public 
              tomorrow. Friday 5/17/2002 at 11AM

5/13/2002 A new restaurant is getting ready to open on Delaware Ave. in the Village 
              of  Kenmore. The new sign at the former site of Scooge's Supper Club reads
    Anthony Michael's Cosmopolitan Grille. I'll have all the details as they 
             approach their opening.

5/3/2002   The Taste of Success 
             A special event to benefit the WNY Restaurant Association's Scholarship fund
             is  being held at the Rich Renaissance Center at One West Ferry St.
             Buffalo,NY 14213. The cost is $20.00 per person and will be held Tuesday,
             May 21,2002  from 5:30 to 8:30 PM
             This event will feature WNY's finest restaurant cuisine, New York State's 
              best wines, and beers from WNY's Micro Breweries. Music is being
              provided by the Buffalo  Philharmonic Brass Quintet. Here is a link to

4/10/2002 ARTVOICE started a series of articles about the health virtues of olive oil and
              wine by Joanne Castellani and Michael Andriaccio. The first article is titled
              "Message in a Bottle". Their web site is michaelscellar.com.

4/7/2002 Tsunami - the new restaurant at 1141 Kenmore Ave was opened recently by 
              chefs Michael Andrzejewski and Tai Truong. Tsunami serves food that is a 
               fusion of Asian and Western. It was reviewed by the Buffalo News food editor 
              Janice Okun and also the ARTVOICE restaurant reviewer, Arthur Page. Both
              reviews were VERY favorable!

3/27/2002 It's that time of year that the Broadway Market takes center stage for buying 
               food in Western NY. They have a web site, but it does't look like it's been 
              updated recently. Don't let that stop you from visiting this Western NY treasure.

3/25/2002 Root Five, a waterfront restaurant located at 4914 Lakeshore Road in 
             Hamburg  was visited by Artvoice's restaurant reviewer Kevin Cary.
             Everything sounded  wonderful - the atmosphere and of course the food.

3/21/2002 Last week Michael Andrzejewski (former chef at Oliver's; now chef at 
                 Tsunami) and Brian Mietus (current chef at Oliver's) prepared a
                 Wine Lovers Dinner at The James Beard Foundation in New York.

3/19/2002  Happy St. Joseph's Day

                 First - about the round of corned beef we had on Sunday - excellent.
                 Very lean, no waste,very tender and every bit as flavorful as the brisket. 

                This Friday is the Spring Fund Raiser - "World of Flowers and Food" at
                 the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. $40 for members and $45 for non-members.

3/14/2002 Tops market made it easy to prepare for the annual Irish feast. All the 
             ingredients for dinner were right at the entrance to the store at the Tops 
             on Elmwood between Hertel  and Kenmore. We are trying something 
              different this year - the corned beef is a round instead of the usual flat brisket.
            I'll let you know how it was. (Tops does have both types

of corned beef available)

3/10/2002 Just found that there is a Food related Convention in Rochester next week for companies
                in the food industry.

3/10/2002 Janice Okun from the Buffalo News gave Fanny's  3*. Fanny's is located at 
                 3500 Sheridan drive 834-0400

                Artvoice reviewed Arcobaleno at 8485 Transit Rd. in East Amherst and
                enjoyed it very much.
                In case the Transit Rd. address sounds familiar, it was the former home 
                to Il Fiorentino which has moved to Hertel Ave. 

3/7/2002  Bob Bolt from Mike's Subs in Kenmore, sent an update on 
              Taste of the Town of Tonawanda
                 "Attached is a fact sheet  about the Taste that we are giving to
                  prospective restaurants. We are going to offer a special that anyone who
                  signs up AND PAYS by the end of March will get a hundred dollars 
                 off the booth rate on the sheet."  [Fact Sheet]

3/6/2002  Very soon, people in Western NY will be preparing for the the annual
              Feast of St. Joseph.
                 Definitely a food celebration! Here is a link to read all about this

3/4/2002   The Buffalo News' featured Gourmet article by Lois Baker highlighted
                Tai Truong - head  chef at Saigon Café 1098 Elmwood ave. 883-1252.
                The article also brought out that  Tai and former chef at Oliver's
               - Mike Andrzejewski, will be opening up a new restaurant  on Kenmore Ave.

    Heard some sad news,  the Calumet will be closing.
